Mazda CX – 5 launched at the end of 2012 as a 2013 year model and replaced bigger CX – 7 model. This is one of the newest crossovers on the market and remains unchanged since. This model was Mazda’s first vehicle featuring the new KODO design language and built upon Mazda’s SkyActive technology, sharing its platform with the Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 sedans. This compact crossover has been available in North America since 2013 year and U.S.- spec Mazda CX – 5 is offered with two engines.
The 2016 Mazda CX-5 will be slightly changed, mostly cosmetics for its fourth year in the market.
Engine wise, for Sport model in FWD layout the base powertrain is 2.0 – liter 4- cylinder engine producing 155 hp and 150 lb – ft of torque and it comes exclusively with this model. The 6 – speed manual transmission is connected to 2.0 – liter engine and it can be ordered only with FWD.
For Sport 4WD, Touring and Grand Touring models there are the 2.5 – liter 4 – cylinder engine producing 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque.
Exterior wise, there will be no significant changes, only mild facelift. The changes at the 2016 Mazda CX-5 can be seen in new lower air intake and headlights. The grille won’t be changed and it will keep that well – known trapezoid look. Around back, trapezoid tail – lights could be changed, as well as a bumper.
In the 2016 Mazda CX-5 easily fits five persons with their cargo.
The cloth and the leather seats once again will be part of the interior of the CX-5’s trim levels and as well as the soft – touch cloth cabin trim. The features of Grand Touring will be heated front seats, surround sound system with nine speakers and it will come with synthetic leather surfaces. The instrument panel has a 5.8 – inch touch screen display, which enables to use a rearview camera, but it is not available on sports models. It also provides the navigation, but it’s an optional choice in all models.
Since safety features are standard for a compact, it includes airbags, anti – lock brakes, stability and traction controls. Part of the tech package is a blind spot monitor and smart city brake support.
2016 Mazda CX-5 release date and price
Price tag won’t be significant change, so the 2016 Mazda CX-5 will start at $ 22,995 which is an official price on Mazda’s site. Touring model will be around $ 25,000 and top tier Grand Touring should be around $ 28,000. Of course, the price will further increase if the customer wants an additional features and more options.
We can expect that new 2016 Mazda CX-5 will come to the market during summer of this year.
