Honda made a global premiere of the 2016 Honda Pilot, at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show on February 12.
After fully redesigned exterior and much more functional interior, we can say, this model represents the 3rd generation of Pilot vehicles.
The 2016 Honda Pilot will continue with 3,5 – liter V – 6, the same as the current model.
In the transmission department, Honda replaced five – speed automatic with a six – speed autobox. The big news is that this vehicle can be bought with an optional nine – speed auto.Configuration between the front wheels and all four wheels is the choice of customers. This drivetrain can deliver 250 hp and 253 lb – ft of torque. Estimated mileage is a little improved from the previous model, so the 2016 Honda Pilot will go 18 mpg in a city and 25 mpg on a highway.
This time Honda made a totally different course with exterior design and finally ditch that boxy appearance.
It seems that this model is inspired by the 2015 CR – V’s design, so now the 2016 Honda Pilot has more attractive and sportier look than before.
On the first sight the redesigned front end looks alike to the CR – V’s, but you can also see the uniqueness of the grille and headlamps on the new SUV.The grille is made by three horizontal chrome slats and the upper blade continuing into the headlamps. Around back, the new Pilot looks nothing like CR – V or its predecessors. The sloping roof, the slanted tailgate and simple apron’s design give the 2016 Honda Pilot a sportier look. The 2016 Honda Pilot now also has a premium features, such as LED headlamps, optional LED DRLs and tailights, and for the first time, Honda put a panoramic roof on the Pilot.
As we can see, there is a lot going on the exterior design, but the new Pilot is not just about a redesigned shell. There is a lot of changes inside the vehicle. The dashboard is still rock – solid plastic, but now, it has a modern and more premium look. The center stack is cleaner and easier to use, and former unit has been exchanged with digital instrument cluster. Also, the steering wheel is little reshaped and has received new controls.
Seating capacity of the new SUV stays unchanged, that means second – row, 3 -person, 60/40 split seat for 8 – passenger. The new Pilot has an 8 – inch touchscreen powered by an Android – based operating system. From the optional list in the Pilot can be added a new bulit – in Honda Saltellite – Linked Navigation with improved graphics and capabilities, as well a 9 – inch rear entertaiment system with Blu – Ray and DVD.
Safety of this SUV is much improved with a new rearview camera.
2016 Honda Pilot price
We can assume that the 2016 Honda Pilot will cost nearly the same as current model, which price is from $ 29,870. Since Honda built-in new system and features in this new SUV,we can expect a small raise of price. But, to keep it competitive, its more likely that Honda will keep the new Pilot under $31,000 before options.
