We had the preview of next generation WRX from Subaru at 2013 Auto Show in New York when the manufacturer unveiled its outstanding WRX concept enticing us all with tales about final car that it won’t resemble humble Impreza any longer. After spying the new version during testing in Germany, it was revealed that it still looks more like Impreza. The car’s styling is also not too dramatic like what was seen on New York show, even though these two have quite obvious similarities, especially in terms of the lights as well as the elements like fender vents, rear diffuser and the grille.
Production version receives the traditional sedan body having taller roof as well as narrower fenders as compared to the ones found on concept. Furthermore, new model comes with side mirrors mounted on doors rather than on A-pillar. Lastly, lesser intakes of air are too smaller as compared to the ones on concept.
2015 Subaru WRX engine
New WRX, that is expected to be revealed at the start of new year 2015, as latest model, would come with 2.0 ltr boxer 4-cylinder engine. Though, it is quite unclear that if the new model will use turbocharger for boosting power or some more sophisticated item. The engine is related closely to unit in BRZ and the difference lies in the fact that it will feature direct-injection system. The direct-injection system is borrowed by normal BRZ engine from Toyota.
The drop to 2.0 ltr displacement from 2.5 ltr of current model will really bring advantage for specific classes of the motorsport and will also make the vehicle very much fuel efficient as well. However, there will not be too much deviation in power levels as compared to the current levels. This will also improve performance of this vehicle because of the lighter weight of the curb.
There has been so much speculation suggesting that upcoming WRX will use boxer-4cylinder- engine having an output capability of around 300 hp – 35 hp increase in current model. To be very unfortunate, powertrain of STI variant still remains mystery. It is still expected to have same 40 hp boost compared to standard model.
The 2015 Subaru WRX will output almost around 265 hp while the WRX STI must generate a minimum of 305 hp. As a standard, the vehicle will also come with the symmetrical system of all-wheel drive. It should be noted that it is expected that the Sedan’s price will rise going past $26k sticker of the current model.
There have been striking similarities in front end to prototypes and concepts that have been seen already incorporating huge intake of air built-in the hood. Nevertheless, this model is going to be a splendid success with all the features that it encompasses.
Those having intentions of buying a luxury car with so many great features should definitely think to wait till 2015 and buy 2015 Subaru WRX. This model is surely going to be a craze in the market as soon as it arrives.
